The Concept
Kennel Curia is a familyproject breeding beautiful and good-natured Dalmatians since 1982. We breed Dalmatians as pets, showdogs and breeding stock and we have some what a litter each year. Our focus is to breed healthy and bealtiful dogs with a harmonic nature. The goal is to breed dogs which are pleasant family members whom on the same time will grow into beautiful creatures presenting a pride and a genuine pleasure to their owners. All our grown dogs are part of our family as well as beeing breeding dogs, and they follow us around in the daily life enjoying life in the country side. Especially they love to run free into the hilly fields, when we take them along riding our horses.
In that way we make sure our dogs get plenty of exercise and daily experiences through training and close contact to the family.
When we have puppies in the house it is equally important to us that they are optimally stimulated and so they are constantly in close humans contact and the puppy pen a placed a central place in the house. In this way we give the puppies the best possible start on their life as a dog with strong bonds to it's people.

We take part in a few dog shows, and often return with top results. The dog shows are judgings of the dog's appearance - "beauty pageans" and we use them as an measurement in proportion to other Dalmatians. Here we have a good time with friends and acquaintances whilst we get caught up in the competition. Some times we go abroad to take part in bigger dog shows, but that takes quite a lot of time, and because of many other activities in the family this is mostly only a few times a year.

Core values: Mentality and health
The mentality of the dogs is the most important element in our breeding. It is our opinion, that the Dalmatian must be a easy-functioning dog that can cope with the challenges and demands from the modern society. They must be kind and positive and able to fare easily amongst other dogs and when home alone. This is only possible with a sound mentality. The Dalmatian is an active dog with great physical capacity. It loves to run and is always up for a game. When in the home our dogs are calm and from their blankets quietly keep an eye on any given activity in the house. But the Dalmatian has a natural need of exercise which requires daily walks and runs. The most of our dogs also likes taking tasks and dog training is not only a necessity but a fun and challenging experience to both dog and owner, strengthening the bond between them.

It is crucial to us in Kennel Curia to breed 100 per cent healthy Dalmatians. Our breeding dogs are tested for their hearing ability using the BAER-test technique and all hear on both their ears. They are HD (hip dysplasia) x-rayed and in the best category of the HD scale. Furthermore there is no hereditary allergy or diseases in the blood lines.

When our puppies leaves the kennel eight weeks old, they are all tested for their hearing ability, vaccinated and with a health certificate. Moreover we aim to x-ray all our puppies when they are between one and two years old in order to be sure that our breeding is still first class with regard to hip dysplasia.

"Dalmatineren er i mine øjne den optimale hund med et sind og en fysik, der tiltaler mig som ingen anden race, og igennem årene har det, der startede som en familiehobby udviklet sig til en stor passion."

- CHARLOTTE JENVALL

Profile: Charlotte Jenvall
I have had Dalmatians since 1976 and started the breeding in Kennel Curia with my parents in 1982. The choice of the Dalmatian was not entirely coincidental. My grandparents had had Dalmatians in two generations which I still remember from my early childhood, and so the Dalmatian has been a strong presence in my life and today it is such a big part of my daily life that I consider it a special life style. In my eyes the Dalmatian is the optimal dog with a mind and a physique that appeals to me like no other, and through the years what started like a hobby has evolved into a great passion.I am a veterinarian by profession and has a clinic for dog, cats and other smaller animals in Slangerup. Besides that I have been an official exhibition judge of the breed since 1994 and I have been the judge in shows held all over Scandinavia and in many other countries counting also Finland, Germany, Italy, Estonia and Holland.

My knowledge about the Dalmatian is gathered through many experiences and time-spending with people as passionated about the breed as myself. There are many people whom I would like to thank for their time, inspiration, honesty and knowledge-sharing. A special thanks goes to Lise & Bjørn Hageskov - Kennel Audhumla, Annie Huismann - Kennel Van Huis Dalmatho, Annemiek & Rhys Morgans - Kennel Gwynmor, Lillian de Ritter, George Fataurous - Kennel Starlong, Kirsti & Tyge Greibrok - Kennel Dalmo, Helle Høie - Kennel Spotnik, Arild Harjen - Kennel Dalmo, Peter & Brenda Rance - Kennel Olbero, Karen Goff-Leggett - Kennel Washakie, Florence & Rune Brunberg Johansen - Kennel Jilloc’s og Timanka, Søren Jakobsen - Kennel Oriana og Jørgen & Maibritt Larsen - Kennel Inky Gipsy plus Per og Karin Schulz.

The rest of the family: My husband Henrik and my daughters Line (1993) and Juliane (1997) support and take part in the breeding and handling of the dogs. Henrik is specially devoted to the physical surroundings to the dogs and puppies. Building our house he has as far as possible favored the needs of the dogs, and is especially enthusiastic when making puppy pens ind the garden. Line and Juliane has grown up amongst spotted dogs and they each have their own dog enjoying extraordinary privileges. Even though we all have a busy life, the dogs are so integrated in the daily grind that we consider them fully-fledged family members.

Gudrun & Hans Thiessen: Kennel Curia is founded in corporation with my late parents and they have played a vital role in the breeding. The name Curia refers to us living on a street called Rådhusvej (town hall's road). Curia means town hall in latin. The dogs have been pivot to many shared activities and the basis of many travels in connection with dog shows and copulation. Further more my mother, Gudrun Thiessen, was a co-founder of the Danish Dalmatian Club.
